Posted By admin On 26.10.191890-1941; extensively documented on recordings; one of the most colorful characters in american music; a bordello pianist, pimp, pool hall hustler & comedian; claimed that he invented jazz in 1902; he certainly helped to define jazz, propelling the new orleans style forward at a time when no one knew precisely what jazz was family disowned him; settled in chicago; became a successful songwriter & called his group the red hot peppers; organized his music scrupulously & made the most of his musicians; embodies the raw, restless social energy of the early years of the century.
This album was groundbreaking in the history of jazz, featuring the longest session of pure and free improvisation. Honestly, I can't say I still love the album or listen to it regularly, but there were times when I deeply enjoyed it's groove, inventiveness and richness. It's also featuring both great bass players Coleman's played with - Charlie Haden and Scott LaFaro - and both drummers - Billy Higgins and Ed Blackwell. CD versions also feature an alternate take. Avoid the vinyl reissue, by the way! It sounds quite thin and empty.
If enough players ask for it, we'll email you to let you know what's available. Depending on how much extra you are ready to pay for it, we could make it a fully boxed product, or a smaller jacket CD package. Your EMail Direct Download is available now for $24. If that interests you, please enter your email below. The CD would include the intro animation as well as a registration key.
