Westinghouse Virtuoso RS643T I may have found the culprit but I am not sure what they are exactly. I put a red square around them both and uploaded the pic so you could please help identify them. I would be grateful if you could please identify what these two are please?
I can't find anything online for this fridge. No manuals or youtube videos. I found some useful youtube videos that helped me get this far, but nothing really useful for this model. Fixing a water hose is usually not a major issue. Unfortunately the fact it is in the door of the fridge is the real problem. From what I have seen these doors are just not designed to be fixed nor built to last. The engineering on them is simply not up to the job.
I would suggest forget the whole idea about fixing it as it could be a real disaster to try this repair yourself. Turn off the water supply and keep cold water in jug until the fridge totally dies on you. Once this happens buy from another brand.
Our hose break was also in the door. As it was a sealed unit, it was irreparable. As we were still able to use our ice component, we left the water supply connected. As for the water dispenser, I have tied a red ribbon around where you place the glass/cup. When it first happened, I was on autopilot and forgot it was broken, which resulted in water cascading down the fridge and all over the floor.
An idea that successful worked. It also prevented visitors that attempted to use it.
Since then, we have been boiling water, pouring it in bottles and then putting them in the fridge. An annoying process to say the least. Unfortunately, you have to live with it. I repaired mine. It took two attempts to find a smaller diameter hose - go with polyethelene (ie rigid) rather than a rubber hose as this wont take the pressure. I think it was 2.5mm.
Feed it up through the old line in the door until it comes out of the dispenser. The real trick is to make an adapter that will join the existing hose under the fridge to meet the new smaller hose.
I manufactured something that involved a stainless steel reducer from a ball point pen refill. Well cleaned of course. Sounds a bit desperate bit the water flow is adequate and it deferred replacing that fridge by a year so far. The defrost element is burned out. The fridge will run for a while and when the defrost element kicks in it will trip the safety switch in your house.
A good fridge mechanic should have one in stock as they are a common thing to burn out. My fridge first did this only after 18 months and after paying $3500 for it I was extremely disappointed.
I got it fixed and it was around the $265 mark and then it did it again after 10 months. I got it fixed again and sold it to a mate very cheap as I wouldn`t guarantee it. I have a Samsung fridge now which I will write about after I have had it for a couple of years but so far it has been exceptionally reliable and feels a better built fridge than the Westinghouse. My best advice is to get it fixed and get rid of it as if it`s not going it`s not worth a pinch. Hope this helps you my friend.
I will NEVER purchase a Westinghouse (Electrolux) fridge ever again.
We purchased westinghouse rs643v ice and water dispenser model about 9 years ago. It's alarm is ringing every hour and we are not able to sleep at night as we have to reset it every time. No one knows how to disable the alarm? Our fridze is also not cooling enough. It seems that we have to replace this fridge. It is expensive to replace an ice and water dispenser fridge's before even a decade.
Last time we just trusted the westinghouse name but it was our biggest mistake. We will not never buy westinghouse product again. RS 643V.10 1 month after our 5 year warranty was up our door handle pulled off. This topped off 5 years of fault after fault.
I rang the Westinghouse consumer line to be told they had no history of the faults, rang the place who had been authorised to fix the fridge and told they couldn't give me the history of their repairs to the fridge as the owner doesn't do that. Over the 5 years we have had the front ice/water cover fascia replaced at least 3 times as it kept breaking off from the screws holding it to the door. It seemed as though the door was curved and added to the fascia coming off. Whenever the repair guy replaced it, it would break away again (this was after he tightened the screws to hold it on). The repair guy had to admit that the door seemed to be the issue.
The last and 4th time happened also just after the 5 years were up, and by this stage I decided to sick it to the fridge, however it popped again and caught the shopping bags and broke totally off. We have had numerous problems with plastic being found in our shaved ice.
We got the ice machine replaced twice. The motor in the freezer section makes a loud noise and at one stage the repair man had to clean ice off the motor. He said it will happen all the time as it was a design fault. No good for us, and people always comment on the noise of the fridge. My husband has put suction handles on the door so that we can open the fridge, very ugly but necessary, as the other option I was told was to replace the whole door. The fridge looked great in the store and seemed to have everything for a large family. Looks can be deceiving.
This fridge has been engineered with built in obsolescence that trashes any value to the Westinghouse brand. Whatever quality Westinghouse may have stood for is simply gone. The plastic trays and selves are simply not up to the job.
The plastic trays easily crack. You can try as I did and do repairs but other components within the fridge quickly follow the same path and break apart. Two days ago the bottom shelf along with the various soft drink bottles fell to the ground as I opened the door. No warning - just fell off the fridge door. How did this happen? The answer becomes obvious with closer examination of the fridge is made.
Let me explain. The shelves on the doors are held in place by two knobs that are moulded as part of the moulded inner door. The plastic had failed and the knobs had ripped away from the moulded inner door. The reason for this happening is because the thickness of the plastic. The plastic is less than 0.1mm thick!
That's right. The plastic that is holding the tray for the bottles of soft drink was 0.1mm thick.
If Westinhouse had wanted the fridge to last the inner door would be moulded in a thicker plastic. They don't because they want you to throw the friidge out and buy another. This philosophy of built in obsolescence is a waist on resources, pollutes the environment, and built on a foundation of greed. A doubt Westinghouse is alone with this type of business practice but I can state that their product's quality is pathetic and they are taking us for fools. We have owned our fridge for 7 years. Since 2008, we have had the brackets for the handles break, a fitting at the back of the fridge leak a number of times and needed a repair man to fix it, the water has never been as cold as it should have, and now, our water dispenser has crapped out.
We have been notified that it cannot be fixed due to the discontinuation of the model. We can't even get the whole door replaced, which would have cost a small fortune, but at least we thought it was an option. Nothing can be done to rectify this issue. The entire reason we got a side-by-side fridge was for the water and ice component. Now we have a fridge that is unable to be used for it's main purpose that it was purchased for. Thanks Westinghouse, for making products that can't be repaired rendering them useless, over-sized paperweights. I can't imagine how much land-fill your products are contributing to.
Instead of being able to have them fixed, you need to throw them out and buy a completely new one! What a rip-off.
We originally bought a Whirlpool 640lt side by side' It failed and were offered a replacement that turned out to be a Westinghouse RS643V - same specs, with extended warranty so we agreed. So far the RS643V has failed at least 3 times with the fridge lower hinge breaking apart. The most recent failure was out of warranty. The technician arrived for the $135 appointment and in 5mins, said that to repair the bottom door hinge would require a new door. However, they had discontinued the model and doors were not available. The door failure occurred because the door could not withstand the weight of drinks in the drinks compartment.
So the only option was for us to accept a 'pro-rata' price for a new fridge, new model that would be a great price. After 2 weeks chasing this down, we were offered a 'pro-rata' price.
But that price was more than our local discount store for a brand that had already shown poor longevity. This is probably the poorest service I'v received from any appliance company. If you're happy to buy an appliance, have it fail several times under warranty, then discarded after that, this is a brand for you. I have had the service mechanic out several times to fix this fridge: the clips on the water dispenser have resulted in replacement several times and the whole fridge door also needed to be replaced. The water/ice dispenser has broken off again this weekend! When trying to see if I could clip it back in, I would received a couple of electric shocks. I really wish I could afford to replace this lemon.
I was originally advised to by Westinghouse, as they are a good, longstanding brand who do fridges well. I wouldn't touch one again with a 10 foot pole! Similar to other reviews, we have had the service department out to repair the fridge on a number of occasions. First the pipes to the water started leaking and had to be replaced. Then the ice/water outlet facia broke and had to be replaced however it was difficult to fix properly due to rust.
The freezer door has rust marks all over it and the ice/water facia is coming away from its mounting again. In the freezer the actual ice maker is rusting away. The serviceman could only suggest replacing the freezer door which would add significant cost to an already expensive item. This fridge cost a lot of money when we bought it, so we have looked after it really well- replacing filters every 6 months, keeping it clean, not overloading the shelves- all to no avail. It is about 8 years old, but the problems started very early on: It had a new door after rust appeared on the original stainless steel fridge door after only 6 months - I was told it was out of warranty when the freezer door went the same way a year later. We have purchased over $400 of replacement shelves & handles, as they break constantly, we now resort to super glue & cable ties!
Now the salad drawer has a huge crack & is jammed, the water dispenser spout fell off recently. I was horrified to read other reviews.
There is no way I would buy another Westinghouse! I had to give it one star, just to submit my review, despite it not deserving any! Everything was fine until we started having cooling problems in the fridge (freezer is fine).
Electrolux technician basically said the computer has had it and we need a new fridge. The fridge is only 6 years old. I have read several other reviews stating exactly the same problem after the same amount of time. This is completely unacceptable, I would expect a minimum of 10 years for a fridge, but 15 really should be what we can get. I wrote to Westinghouse (email) a week ago to give them an opportunity to rectify the issue, however have not heard back. This just adds to the disappointment.
We have owned our fridge for a touch over 5 years. We have had the repairer out 3 times under warranty to repair a water leak from the dispenser, and each time it was merely 'patched' up, instead of rectifying the problem properly, and needless to say, it has just happened again, out of warranty, and inside the freezer door this time, so it can't be easily 'patched'. There is obviously an issue with the flimsy water pipe for there to be so many people discussing the same problem, yet they are still just pushing the model out as is! We have owned 2 previous side by side water/ice fridges, (not westinghouse!) and owned each one for more than 12 years each, with absolutely no issues with the water or ice, so Westinghouse.it IS possible!!
I only wish I had thought to look at this forum BEFORE we purchased this fridge! Never again will I buy anything from Electrolux, or it's other 'Brand names'!! We have had numerous warranty claims and have replaced just about every plastic part in this Fridge in first 2 years since purchase. An extended warranty claim for non cooling was approved in 2010. S/S panels developed corosion and although the repairer (for the cooling claim) acknowledged a problem, the panels were considered 'cosmetic' by Lumley (extended warranty provider) and not covered. Westinghouse advised it was outside its warranty period. Door handles cracked off - not covered by warranty as cosmetic (of course you don't need door handles on a fridge!!).
Now all the water tubing has cracked. Westinghouse can't even provide me with a product guide to replace the tubing running up thru freezer door.
They have suggested their Westinghouse repairer, of course ($134 call out fee). And now its not cooling again!! Latest info I found is that Westinghouse provided 5 yr warranty for their fridge panels for their RS643V model. Of course Westinghouse can't even find reference to this! I'm lodging a formal complaint with Fair Trading - product is a complete LEMON and the Electrolux Customer Service is pathetic. The ECS Manager did not even respond! We purchased a Westinghouse fridge as it was an Australian made product with a good reputation but NEVER AGAIN!!
I have advised my friends & family not to ever purchase a Westinghouse fridge. March 27th 2017 Update: Beware dealing with Electrolux! Following years of negotiating with Electrolux after they replaced incorrectly fitting doors to our side by side SS icemaker fridge/ freezer & tried to patch it up to prevent the freezer alarm continually sounding, Electrolux approved a replacement unit. It was agreed we would contribute $600 (RRP $2300) which was fair.
After a year of having no stock in Australia, Electrolux delivered a new unit. Unfortunately Westinghouse fridges are now being made overseas and all their specs have changed (particularly the height of the units) which their CS staff didn't realise. With a dome on the top of the unit (not sure how it would sit flush in a built in cavity) & being some 65mm taller than the old unit & 30mm taller than our cavity, the new unit doesn't fit! But it gets better. All the new side by side Westinghouse/Electrolux models are the same height!
So Electrolux, unsure what to do, has kindly offered us a store credit of $200, yes $200, to replace their faulty repaired side by side SS fridge/freezer. Electrolux have no concept of realism!!
On top of everything, I have now started 6months cancer treatment, so all this is just another burden. I intend to pursue the matter further. Just beware dealing with Electrolux!! Since buying this fridge in 2006 I have replaced the door handle twice and clock once. But worse and most inconveniently it keeps tripping the power. Have had servicemen out twice so far (they have simply done a quick fix of letting the fridge dry out which means on each occasion I am without a fridge for some hours)and twice this year have simply done the same myself.
I have been told that the answer may lie with the defrost mechanism not properly drying out fridge - hence the water collecting and tripping the power. Given call out cost of $95 and investigation and repair at $35 per 15 minutes I will probably just put this heap of rubbish out with the next kerbside collection.
Very disappointed and will never buy this brand again. RS 643V Bottom Tray-disabled by Shearing off the door supports. I tried to request Electrolux to assess the defects-Customer Care of Electrolux (CCE) wants me to pay for the technician $95.00 Callout fee and $35.00 every 15 Minutes. The factory at orange told me that they have an issue with Air Lock and the insulation failed to eneter the cavity of the support.
CCE adament not to accept this. I tried to get halp from 'Fair Trading of NSW' but they are not able to do anything as this is not a safety issue. They advised me to go to the Consumer Trader and Tenants Tribunal (CTTT). I paid a fee of $35.00 and on the day of the Hearing the CCE even did not bother to showup. My intention is to request CTTT to request CCE to check with other owner who may have the same problem. I tried to contact service people to fix it they declined as the repair of such defects are very unreliable.
If you are within the two years warranty please test your door supports by tapping in to see if it sounds empty or full? I WISH THIS SITE WILL ALLOW US TO UPLOAD PHOTOS FOR GREATER AWRENESS. DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE OR ANY OTHER FRIDGE THAT IS BACKED BY ELECTROLUX.ELECTROLUX has terrible customer services. The fridge has broken down 4 times in the three years I have had it. I want to get rid of it!
If you want problems buy this fridge. I have spent over $500 checking my wiring and installing new safety switches at electrolux recommendationa and in the end it was the ice machine.

Electrolux only temporarily fix problems and then your warrenty runs out and its all your problem from then on. I REPEAT.DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE FREEZER. Westinghouse Virtuoso RS643T I may have found the culprit but I am not sure what they are exactly.
