Day Seventeen and we’re still going strong. Only ten days left until launch day! Continuing on with Terminal Services, today’s topic is Terminal Services printing in Windows Server 2008 – and more specifically Terminal Services Easy Print. The big enhancement to Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services printing is the new Terminal Services Easy Print feature. There are also some new Group Policy settings as well as some other features to enhance the TS printing experience. So what is Terminal Services Easy Print?

Basically, this feature enables users to print from a Terminal Services session to the local or network printers that are configured on the client computer without the need to install drivers on the Terminal Server. The Easy Print feature uses the drivers installed locally on the client system which results in a more consistent printing experience between local and remote sessions. When a user prints from their Terminal Server session to a local printer, they will see the full printer properties dialog box from the local client and they will have access to all printer functionality. The Easy Print universal driver acts as a proxy and redirects all UI calls to the driver on the client. Administrators can also use Group Policy to limit the number of printers redirected to just the default printer which reduces the overhead and the number of printers that must be managed. To use the Terminal Services Easy Print feature on Windows 2008 Terminal Servers, the clients must be running the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 6.1 client and have the.NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 installed. Both of these components are included with Windows Server 2008, and will be available for download for Windows Vista and down-level client operating systems.

The Terminal Services Easy Print feature is implemented in tsprint.dll and works seamlessly in mixed platform environments such as the following:. x86 clients connecting to x64 Windows Server 2008 Terminal Servers. x64 clients connecting to x86 Windows Server 2008 Terminal Servers The document to be printed is rendered as an XPS document on the Terminal Server and then transferred back to the client where it is printed using the local print driver. Since XPS documents can be created and printed on both x86 and x64 platforms and are platform-independent, there are no cross-platform compatibility issues when using Easy Print.

Hi I have the same question as AMG. How do i change printer settings on the terminal server for redirected printers? I cannot use the easy print driver for an Epson TM-T88iv performance issues.

I have installed teh driver on the 2008 server. When the client conencts it creates teh printer with the correct driver. I then need to disable BiDirection support on the ‘Ports’ tab. I usually do this with prnadmin.dll or setprinter.exe. But in 2008 the ability to even make this change manually has been disallowed.

How can i make this change to a redirected printer? Hi: We´re using Terminal Services Printing sinse february 2009 and I have some troubles about it that I would like to comment. When we began de TS implementation in our ERP, i found problems with the remote printing because the printed documents had error in the font, I was searching on the web and I found the link.

I call to microsoft to ask for this patch and every was working fine until this week, when I aproved the last security patches for Microsoft XP SP3. This week a began to find this message on many of the machines where a applied the patch at that moment 'windows presentation foundation terminal server print w has encounter an error.' Also event ID 5000 –source.net runtime 2.0 error reporting — EventType clr20r3, P1 tswpfwrp.exe, P2 3.0.6920.1109, P3 470bc7c1, P4 windowsbase, P5 3.0.0.0, P6 488f1338, P7 dc1, P8 30, P9 system.io.fileformatexception, P10 NIL.' I was searching in the interhet and I found a workaround from to the problems coping de TsWpfWrp.exe from another machine with vista version and is working fine again, but I belive i’m going to start again with the original problem. Thanks for your help Horacio. I am trying to use easy print from any Windows 7 machine running either remoteapp or remote desktop but only get the redirected print drivers that are installed on the servers that I am connecting to. Nothing shows up as “easy print” in the properties for the printers.

I have tried to use easy print from various windows 7 machines connected to both Windows SBS 2008 and Server 2008R2. I have gone through the one troubleshooting page that I could find and all seems to be enabled and setup correctly, but still no “easy print” redirected printers. Due to our operation being a 'one-man show', I have a thin-client / terminal server environment that handles 150 clients strewn throughout the state of SC in 5 cities. I have, for the past many years, successfully used a 'traditional' print server, allowing the users to attach to any network printer in the state. Terminal Servers and Print Server are both 2008 and both located in the center of the state at the corporate office. I need to know, from someone who really knows, if checking the 'Render print jobs on client computers' is rendering the print job on the Terminal Server or the Print Server can't seem to determine or find white paper on this. I need tit rendered on the Print Server, as it has been in the past.

PROBLEM: Error: Windows Presentation Foundation Terminal Server Print W has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. When connecting Remote desktop from a Windows XP machine on to Windows Server 2008, and trying to print on a redirected printer, the print comes out fine but the error mentioned in the subject pops up. Microsoft suggests installing “.Net framework 3 with Sp1” and updating the file Tswpfwrp.exe. The.Net fix did not solve the problem for any computer in my organization, updating the Tswpfwrp.exe file did. RESOLUTION: 1.
